His Political Downfall followed "juicy" revelations in two websites --- first, escapefromparadise.com and next, yeocheowtong.com. Despite his then $1.2 million Minister Pay, he apparently tried to make even more money as a Wannabe Big-Time Property Investor and "got burnt".
When the "Escape from Paradise" website first appeared years ago, PM Lee should have shown him "the back door" right there and then. Neither did this happened when "yeocheowtong.com" next appeared.
As a result, while still holding on to his Minister's post, he was an "embarassing liability" not just to the PAP but also to Singapore [the nation] and Singaporeans [the people].
After "stepping down from the Cabinet" [face-saving words], he was not assigned a high-paying job at a GLC [for obvious reasons] but is now said to be with the LIPPO Group (headed by a Chinese Indonesian) and drawing a salary of around $18,000 per month [ which is really "peanuts" compared to his last-drawn $100,000 monthly Minister's Pay].

1) Actually Yeo Cheow Tong had heavily invested in lot's of properties. He had thought of buying them and renting them out or selling them when the prices are good. Unfortunately pricing went on a down-turn thanks to his buddies Mah Bow Tan and Lim Hng Khiang for building 38,000 excessive HDB flats and driving HDB pricing to all time lows. You know a better fact, it was not he who invested but his wife...Helen Yeo but signed by him. Way to go Bitch!
2) The Banks had been banging him for a long time but even with his million dollar salary, he can't seem to service the loans. The banks had been told from PMO not to pull the plug. Yeo Cheow Tong is on a brink of Bankruptcy and should have been bankrupted 1 year back and definitely before the elections.

3) The same happened in the past when Far East nearly went under few years back. The government forced all banks to not pull the plug due to huge exposure of government projects via Far East and the government was trying to return the favour. That's why Kwek Lian Beng very tulan...the special treatment Ng Teng Fong gets.
But let's not confuse the talented Ng Teng Fong with the incompetent Yeo.
Ng Teng Fong, Singapore's richest man, died on February 2, 2010 after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage on Jan. 23. Ng's family net worth was estimated to be $8 billion in 2009[. At his death, he was reported to have been the richest person in Singapore.
Ng was born in 1928 in China's southeastern Fujian province as the eldest of 11 children. His family migrated to Singapore when he was six and started a dried goods store in Singapore. Ng defied expectations to take over the family business and instead struck out on his own building and selling houses, a business that became Far East in the 1960s.
Ng and his family now own the property companies Far East Organization and Sino Group.
Despite his fortune, Ng had a reputation for leading a frugal and unostentatious lifestyle. He shunned publicity. Though he controlled at least a quarter of Singapore's housing market, Ng lived in the same house he'd had for 30 years, and took his own lunch on to airplanes.
4) PAP knowing that a Bankrupt Scandal will cause chaos and tarnish the PAP branding & party integrity had decided to issue Yeo Cheow Tong a one time payment to help pay all outstanding to the banks. It is in the range of tens of millions and in return, he would be asked to step down.

 In 1967, he went to the University of Western Australia, where he obtained his Bachelor Degree (Mechanical Engineering) in Australia. This is one of the easiest majors, useful for automobile mechanics and such. Our guess is that he could not make it into the National University of Singapore.

His early job history included employment by EDB in 1972, and, in 1975, by LeBlond Makino Asia Pte Ltd (LMA) in a low-level job as a Staff Engineer.
In December 1984, he was elected unopposed as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Hong Kah Constituency. No one ran against Yeo Cheow Tong, so he had to win. (Where got votes?)
In 1985 Yeo became Minister of State for Health and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. On 2 January 1994, Yeo Cheow became Minister for Trade and Industry. (Where got experience?)
In 1997, he was elected as one of five MPs for Hong Kah GRC. In this way, Yeo Cheow Tong was protected by being elected as one of a large group of MPs. (Now got money.)

In May 2006 Yeo Cheow Tong was fired by Singapore's Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong. In March 2009, it was announced that Yeo will not be asked to return to parliament - he is finished politically. Now, it is our job to finish the bum off for good.

"Wen", Yeo Wen Xian, is now back in Singapore, it appears. She was recruited by JP Morgan in New York City where she lived in the exclusive Chelsea area (where US$2 million flats are not uncommon). Her building was at Chelsea Court, complete with doorman and concierge.
Yeo Cheow Tong awarded a lucritave contract to JP Morgan. Hmmm... Was Wen given this high-paying job as a kickback to Yeo Cheow Tong?

MM Lee has sent his grandson (unruly Lee Hsien Yang's unruly son) to the Singapore American School (SAS) -- something Singaporeans cannot do, as they must attend only Singapore schools.
Addressing the Singapore American School (SAS), MM Lee said: "I also had a grandson who could not fit into our schools. He had an IQ of 140, so he is not a stupid boy. But he was having trouble. His brother was scoring and he was not because he was dyslexic and he had to learn two languages - English and Chinese.
"So, the Education Ministry allowed him to opt out of the system. We did not have the specialist teachers to cater for people like him. He joined the SAS and at your school, your teachers helped him cope with his dyslexia and in the process restored his self esteem and confidence, and he's done well. Your staff support the American community and they have brought benefits to Singaporeans. Thank you."
The SAS students include (59%) US passport holders, Koreans (10%), Indians (3.6%), Japanese (3.4%), Canadians (3.2%), and Indonesians (2.6%), and Singaporeans (4.4%).
What? 4.4% Singaporeans - this shows that LKY's grandson was not the only Singapore elite kid to go to SAS. Remember, SAS is the school that had Michael Fay as a student. Regarding Michael Fay and his caning by Singapore, Lee Kuan Yeo said, "[The U.S.] does not restrain or punish individuals, forgiving them for whatever they have done. That's why the whole country is in chaos: drugs, violence, unemployment and homelessness. The American society is the richest and most prosperous in the world but it is hardly safe and peaceful."
OK Grandpa Lee, we hope your gradson enjoys his stay at SAS, where he can become another American. Hopefully the rough Americans will beat the shit out of him.
The co-author of Escape from Paradise, is Singaporean. As a native English speaker, her son could not have made it in the Singapore school system. Unfortunately, her son could not opt out and go to a "foreign" school, because Singaporeans have to go to Singapore schools. She tried, but her children were denied permission to go to United World College. Only Lee Kuan Yew's family members and "friends" have the right to attend foreign schools in Singapore.
By opting out of the Singapore school system, Lee Kuan Yew shows he believes in the superiority of the education given to FTs.

In the draconian Singapore public school system, Chinese is the most important and heavily weighted subject. This was a major disadvantage for Marc, as our native language, and the language spoken at home, was English.
At the time, only 23 percent of Singapore families spoke English at home; we were in the minority.
Students who did not succeed in the Singapore school system by the end of the sixth grade, would be streamed to a lower level of courses, and had little chance for a university or even secondary education in Singapore.
Many of these children would drop out of school, and end up working at McDonald's, Burger King, or doing doorman duty at your fancy hotel. I did not want Marc or Warren to be one of these unfortunate children.
I arranged for extra tutoring, and made it a point to be with Marc every day to help him with his studies when he came home.
The pressure was on.
The hard work paid off, and, at the end of November 1993, Marc passed his exams with top grades. He received an A in every subject, except for Chinese, where his grade was a D. This was a giant step forward.
The grades were good enough for Geelong College, but the D in Chinese would cause Marc to be streamed to second-rate schools in Singapore, with no hope of being accepted to Singapore's university.
So, why didn't I send Marc to one of Singapore's private English speaking schools, like the American School? Simple, as a Singaporean, he was bared from attending any private schools located in Singapore.
Our great leader, Lee Kuan Yew had figured out how to have a slavish docile population, saying, "If we had an English-educated middle class to begin with in 1960 -- querulous, arguing, writing letters to the press, nit-picking, chattering away -- we would have failed."

Goh Chok Tong praised Yeo's daughter in his National Day rally speech on August 19, 2001 saying, "Yeo Cheow Tong told me that JP Morgan, a leading Wall Street investment bank, recruited his daughter before she even started her final year in a top US university! Upon joining the bank after graduation, she was assigned to a corporate finance team that executes billion-dollar projects. Apart from the pay, such a first job excited and challenged her."
Yeo's daughter, Wen Xian, must enjoy the big job in New York. (Yeo Cheow Tong awarded JP Morgan a contract involving Singapore's Airport Logistics Park.)
We understand, however, that Wen Xian did not make the grade at JP Morgan, and has had to return to Singapore.
